SCRIPTS ARE READY FOR PICK UP

Whether you are at the north or south campus, please feel free to either have your child stop by my room, or you as a parent, stop by personally to pick up the script....
I was going to take these over to the north campus, but, I have been asked to have you come get them from me.

Good news!!!  I do not teach any music classes next week so you can come any time/any day!!

in fact, today at 2:10 I will  be finished teaching classes for this school year!! WOO HOO~~~

Yes, the scripts will be sitting out, but, please do not just take them.... I will have a "check off list" at my desk.  Once your child has taken their script, their name will be checked off my list!!!

You are free to do whatever you want with the script, but, I would highly suggest that you three hole punch it and put it in a binder... For better protection, you could even put the sheets in page protectors...

If I have to replace these scripts (lost or damaged, etc) it will cost you $5.00.

The cd is expected in the next two weeks.  When I receive it, I will email out mp3's to the email you have listed.. If you didn't put your email address on the audition sign up sheet, you will not receive ANYTHING from me over the summer.. I would suggest that you shoot me an email so I can add you to the OZ email list.

Thanks for your amazing support so far!!  Enjoy reading the script with your child.. It is going to be a fantastic show!!!

xoxo Jules
(as usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please text or email me at 801-865-7563 or JSnarr@Legacyprep.org)

If you have not paid you $55 and have not contacted me regarding this fee, please do so immediately... If you are having financial hardships, please let me know so I can work something out with you!!!

Have a WONDERFUL summer!!
xoxo Jules

MEET OUR PRODUCER!!!

WE HAVE A PRODUCER!! YAY!!  FIONA OSTLER YOU ROCK BABY!!!
What is a producer?? Well, they do everything!!! It is a VERY time consuming, essential part of a production.  I am SO thankful for Fiona to volunteer her time!!!  I will be sending you her email address.  ADD IT TO YOUR EMAIL CONTACTS!! When she emails you, it is as if it is coming from ME, so, make sure you read everything she sends out.
Fiona has been acting all her life, like, seriously putting on plays for the neighborhood with her sister in their carport.  In forth grade, her teacher let her write, direct, and produce a play for her elementary school.  After rocking a bunch of supporting roles in high school, she studied Theatre and Creative Writing at SUU, and even worked for the Utah Shakespearean Festival while down there.  Although she isn't acting at the moment, Fiona attends a screenwriting group (writing movies) and publishes indie books in all her free time.  She loves to dance like nobody's watching, plan parties, and drink Pepsi.  Fiona has four children, a dog, a turtle, and is happily-ever-after married to a very tall, nice man who is sometimes the bass player in a band.  She is very excited to work on an LPA musical and loves getting to know LPA parents, kids, and teachers.
ADD HER TO YOUR EMAIL CONTACTS PLEASE: fioneechka@hotmail.com

 Short and Sweet, RIGHT!!??!!
For those of you who missed the meeting.....
we went through several things we expect from our cast members.  I have a copy of what we discussed in my room at the south campus... feel free to stop by and grab it (I also have it on my laptop and can email it over).  it is imperative that you go over every part of the discussion notes and behavior contract with your child,  sign it and return it to me----with your check for $55/person.   Your child cannot participate in this musical until I have a behavior contract signed by both the parent and student. Thanks everyone!!! I really appreciate it!!

Thank you for your fees... If I haven't already spoken to you about your fees, please get them paid... This money goes to good use!!!  Have you ever wondered how much money goes into the production of musicals??  I won't say which local high school, but, one of the high school very near us spent nearly $100,000 on her production this year, and nearly $80,000 last year... ha ha  OF COURSE we are an elementary school, so, we do things on a much smaller scale.  MUCH smaller!! The rights alone to this edition of Wizard is over $1,000, we are going to purchase a few costumes, material for sewing some of them, lumber to build the set, paint, brushes, drop clothes,  I am going to paint the stage in a black-box style, plus I am trying to buy lighting so we have a more professional looking production.  Not to mention anything we will need to rent from Centerpoint or Hale.. So, if you have sat down and added up the fees, just know, we will break even at the end of the day.  I will NEVER overspend, but, I will definitely spend what we have to make our production something your child will remember forever!!!

WE HAVE A PRODUCER for the show... Fiona Ostler has agreed to help us out with our production!!! This is a HUGE job... I will be meeting with her over the summer.  We will be fully organized in the fall for our next parent meeting.

Wizard of Oz Cast Behavior & Attendance Contract

Dear Students and Parents of the Wizard of Oz Casts,

We are thrilled to be working together on the first ever LPA Elementary 5th and 6h grade School Musical! Helping LPA fulfill its role as an amazing school of choice with an emphasis in fine arts is something we are truly PASSIONATE about. We have seen the impact that drama and music can have in students’ lives and it is our sincere hope that the students who have joined our OZ casts will have a wonderful experience! J

Because we have a great deal to accomplish in a relatively short period of time, POSITIVE STUDENT BEHAVIOR IS ESSENTIAL TO MAINTAINING A PLACE IN THESE CASTS! We have very high expectations for our students and because this is an “after school extracurricular” activity, we do not have the same time and resources to work through incidents of misbehavior and/or tardiness and absence as we would during school hours. We will be VERY strict in enforcing this behavior/attendance policy:

Behavior:
1.       Students will show respect toward one another, directors, choreographers, and ALL volunteers at ALL times
2.       Students will follow directions the first time they are asked… THE FIRST TIME
3.       Students will stay in the rehearsal area unless specifically given permission to leave (restroom, drink, etc.)
WE HAVE A TWO STRIKES YOUR OUT POLICY!!!
The first time a student chooses not to follow these rules, a note will be sent home with that student along with a phone call to the parents explaining what happened. This is the FIRST AND ONLY WARNING.

The second time a student chooses not to follow these rules, he/she will be dismissed from the show.  We dismissed cast members from our previous production and will not hesitate to do so again with OZ.
Attendance:
1.       Any conflicts with the rehearsal and performance dates need to be submitted in writing (email or note to directors) for approval within one week of the rehearsal schedule being announced.. So PLEASE go over your schedules during the summer… If you see a conflict Mondays (Saturdays also for leads) and get back to me ASAP.
2.       Two unexcused absences will result in removal from the show
3.       Absences due to illness will require a doctor’s note
4.       Rehearsals will start promptly at 3:15. If a student arrives at 3:17, he/she is considered late. Two tardies = one absence.

Late Pick-up Policy:
1.       Rehearsal ends promptly at 6:00 and parents should be waiting in front of the school to pick up students
2.       All students MUST be picked up by 6:15 at the latest! For legal reasons we are unable to give students rides. PLEASE be courteous to those who are volunteering their time for your students and arrive on time for them
3.       Students who are not picked up by 6:15 will be charged a $1.00 a minute child care fee.
4.       Child care fee must be paid by the following week’s rehearsal for student to continue participating
Grades:
Although WIZARD OF OZ is extracurricular, your grades and completion of your homework are very important to Mr. Wilcox and Miss Jules.  Our rehearsals are every MONDAY from 3:30-6:00 until a couple of weeks before the show opens.  There will be extra rehearsals in January on Saturdays-the week prior to the show opening.  Students should NEVER use WIZARD OF OZ rehearsal as an excuse for late/unfinished homework or failure to study for tests… especially on a Tuesday.  Students will be home by 6:30 which leaves plenty of time to finish homework and study for tests.  If your homeroom teacher sees that you are struggling with completing work on Tuesdays, there may be consequences related to the musical.  We do not want to have consequences regarding this issue and expect students to do their best!

Thanks everyone for your wonderful auditions and being a part of our OZ casts! We can’t wait to work with you. J

We have read the policies on the attached Cast Behavior and Attendance Contract and agree to meet ALL of these requirements. I understand that if I/my child do/does not meet the requirements for attendance and/or behavior, he/she will be dismissed from this production. I also agree to the terms of the Late Pick-up Policy.

HELLO MY PRETTIES!!!  Aaron, Miss G and I have spent all day huddled in my living room casting our production of Wizard Of Oz, young performers edition.... and at 1:00 in the morning, we have FINALLY cast our show!! WOO HOO !!!!
We have decided to cast EVERYONE who auditioned (I went over the list many times... if you do not see your child's name on the list, please contact me immediately via text 801-865-7563 and I will add them into their specific spot) In the past day, several students have dropped out because of sports, dance, cheer and other commitments they didn't realize would conflict with our production leaving our cast at a grand total of "69"!!!  HOW am I going to put 69 kids on our tiny little stage with sets and a bridge you ask?? I HAVE NO IDEA, ha ha But, I promise you, Aaron and I will figure it out!!  This is going to be an AMAZING production!

1. We have double cast SEVERAL leads... NOT ALL, but several...
2. We would LIKE to run this show "6" nights in January... CAST A LEADS would perform Monday/Wednesday/Friday.  CAST B LEADS would perform Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday.  The CHORUS WILL PERFORM EVERY NIGHT!!!  There is "ONE" chorus for both casts.
3.  Our production will debut the last week of January and will begin promptly at 6:30, then end around 7:45/8:00.
4.  The cast does not need to be at school til 5:00 which gives them plenty of time to do their homework after school and eat dinner.  Also, students will be home before 8:30, so they can shower and get in bed before 9:00 every night... IF YOU THINK THIS IS TOO MUCH FOR YOUR CHILDREN IN THE CHORUS TO DO A SHOW 6 NIGHTS IN A ROW, please let me know ASAP. Majority will rule... I will
4. The other option is running the show a minimum of "4" nights... Four nights only is a guaranteed sell out. It will be first come first serve and I would have to limit the number of tickets you purchase, per family....

THERE WILL BE A MANDATORY PARENT MEETING sometime in the next 14 days... I need to speak with my producer and figure out what day and time works for her, but, I am shooting for Friday the 16th, right after school.  You children will be in my room watching a movie while we meet on the stage... I will post about this ASAP.  At this meeting we will review then SIGN the behavior contracts, PAY the $55/cast member, PASS OUT the rehearsal schedule for next year (this is always subject to change depending on how quickly everyone picks up choreography!!).

WOW PARENTS AND STUDENTS!!!

What an AMAZING turn out we had for these auditions... Isn't it exciting that we are having our first After School 5th and 6th grade musical, "the wizard of oz"?? I am SO excited!!!

Aaron and I were BLOWN away by the talent our 5th and 6th graders possess!!!  You kids are making it VERY difficult on us in choosing our cast of characters.  AGH So many AWESOME auditions!!!

I wanted to send a quick email letting you all know that Aaron and I will post the cast list "or" cast list's' on Sunday night around 10:00.  He and I are meeting all day tomorrow and part of Sunday, if needed, to get this show cast!!

As most of you know, we were blown away at the many students eager to participate in this production.  I had opened these auditions, not thinking all 90 spots would fill up!!  BUT, they did.... That is an AMAZING thing for an elementary school production.  Thank you so much for wanting to take this fun journey. I couldn't be more excited to work with your children.

As of now, Aaron and I are not sure if we are going to cast all 90 kids by splitting the production into 2 casts.... OR, if we are going to cut half of the kids who auditioned and have 1 cast.....  We have such a SHORT amount of time to put together this huge musical, that working with 2 full casts... ugh.. our time is limited with rehearsals...

So you are all aware.. If there is only one cast, your child will most likely be in one particular scene... However, this is exactly why I chose this particular show!! Because we can have TONS of characters.  There are the jitterbugs, the crows, the munchkins, the ozians, the monkeys, the guards, the evil scarey trees, the apple trees ... not to mention all of the leading characters. Here are the few options we are looking at over the weekend, in case you wanted to know how we were going to cast the show.

1. ONE GIGANTIC SINGLE CAST:  This would REQUIRE TONS of parent volunteers during rehearsals and backstage during every single production.  If we only have ONE CAST, the production will run 4 nights, January 28-January 31st, 2014 The chorus and the leads would perform all four nights...

2.  DOUBLE CAST LEADS, ONE CHORUS:  This will require tons of parent volunteers during rehearsals and backstage during every single production.  We MIGHT double cast the leading characters only... This is another option, each cast of leads would perform 2 nights... Chorus would be the same for both casts... One single chorus.... The chorus would perform all 4 nights.  Performances would be January 28-January 31.  This is easier to consider, because the only extra rehearsals would be with our leading characters on Satudays.... With this option, some of the kids who auditioned would not make it into the show.

3.TWO DIFFERENT CASTS: This would require a few parents to help backstange during the performance and a few times during our rehearsals..... There is the small chance that we will double cast the whole show.  In this case, our rehearsals would be :MONDAY's CAST A... FRIDAY's CAST B.... SATURDAYS Cast A leads for 2 hours, and Cast B leads for 2 hours...we would run the show 6 nights, January 26-January 31, each cast having three performances.  If we did it this way, all children who auditioned would make it into the show.

Now I hadn't planned on one extra full day of rehearsals.. I will also be directing the 3rd and 4th grade musical at the same time and their rehearsals will be on Thursdays.. So, Double casting is a huge unpaid time commitment for both Aaron and I... So, there is a lot to be considered this weekend.

I hope you know we would LOVE to work with all of your children... It is never our intent to make a child feel badly or cry because they did not make one of our productions... Everyone did so well, and were so very very brave to come audition!!!

We will make our decision and post the cast list  or cast lists on the blog the minute we are finished!!!
Look for the cast list Sunday night

THANKS AGAIN FOR WANTING TO COME ON THIS CRAZY ADVENTURE!!!  It is going to be a blast!!

Have a WONDERFUL Mothers Day Weekend y'all!!
